Annai Velankanni
The Annai Velankanni Shrine in Besant Nagar, Chennai, is one of India's most celebrated Marian shrines — a landmark of immense spiritual and architectural grandeur. On ordinary days, thousands gather here for worship, while during the shrine's 11-day annual festival, daily attendance can exceed 100,000 devotees.

Church AV Design
Cinetekk
A benchmark in Indian church
AV — where vision, legacy, and
expertise converge to elevate the
worship experience.
Designing an AV system for a space of this magnitude was never about equipment alone. It demanded vision, heritage, and strategy.
It demanded a deep understanding of how technology must serve not just the scale of the environment, but also the sanctity of worship within it.
A DISTINCTIVE BRIEF
Vision. Legacy.
Expertise.
Three pillars that shaped every decision — from the first consultation to the final measurement.
01
◈
A Visionary Beginning
The project was guided by Fr. Jackson of Madha TV, who served as AV consultant. His vision was clear: in a shrine of such significance, audio should never be an afterthought but an essential part of design. Under his direction, the project moved away from conventional, one-size-fits-all solutions and embraced a purpose-built approach from the very start.
02
◈
Entrusted Through Legacy
The responsibility of delivering this project was entrusted to our team because of the extensive legacy built over decades in cinema and professional audio. This heritage brought more than technical knowledge — it provided the ability to discern where and how technology should be applied to achieve lasting results. It was this foundation of trust, earned through years of innovation and execution, that positioned us to handle a project of such magnitude.
03
◈
A Purpose-Built Approach
Moving away from conventional, one-size-fits-all solutions, every element of the AV system was designed specifically for the unique acoustic and spatial demands of this shrine — from the vast open-air congregation areas to the reverberant interior of the main chapel.
Simulation. Modelling. Precision.
The design team relied on extensive simulations, acoustic modelling, and iterative testing — because visibility was not an option.
AdvancedBeam-Steering
Turning vision into reality required more than selecting products — it required strategy. By adopting advanced beam-steering techniques, the system achieved precise sound coverage and minimised reflections across the vast shrine environment.
(01)
Speech Transmission Index
(STI)
The system delivered a significantly higher Speech Transmission Index (STI) than traditional systems. Every design decision was guided by planning, simulation, and expertise, ensuring the outcome matched the vision.
(02)
TECHNOLOGY & INTEGRATION
Built On Transparency & Headroom.
The system is engineered around proven, high-performance hardware chosen for reliability across both high-demand DJ nights and ambient dining hours — with remote visibility into every component.

KEY STRATEGIC FEATURES
Engineered for
sanctity and scale.
01
Precise Sound Coverage
Advanced beam-steering techniques achieved precise sound coverage across the shrine's vast spaces — ensuring every devotee, regardless of position, receives clear, intelligible audio.
02
Minimised Reflections
The system minimised reflections within the shrine's highly reverberant architecture, delivering a significantly higher Speech Transmission Index (STI) than traditional systems could achieve.
03
Planning & Simulation
Every design decision was guided by planning, simulation, and expertise — ensuring the outcome matched the vision and the sanctity of the space was never compromised by the technology within it.
Today, the Annai Velankanni Shrine project is recognised as a benchmark in Indian church AV.
It demonstrated that grandeur need not compromise intelligibility — and that when vision, legacy, and expertise come together, technology can elevate the worship experience to new heights.
Grandeur need not compromise intelligibility — vision, legacy, and expertise, working together.
THE OUTCOME
The true success of this project lies not in the equipment used, but in the strategy, innovation, and heritage of knowledge that guided every decision.
THE BENCHMARK
Not in the equipment used, but in the strategy, innovation, and heritage of knowledge that guided every decision.
